Filament Wound Pressure Vessels

Composite pressure vessels have been used extensively for storing compressed natural gas such as hydrogen. In today’s aerospace and water industries highly benefit from composite pressure vessels. Manufacturing it from composite material found wide use in modern engineering and made it so popular in many applications.

Where are they used?

Reports of recent years show that composite pressure vessel is becoming the fastest growing market for advanced composites, particularly for carbon fibre composites. However, they are organized into five categories that can be used as a reinforcement for metal pressure vessels. The biggest applications of them are as fuel, gas, oxidizer, liquid tanks in the automotive, aerospace, water and chemistry industries.

· Hydrogen tank in rockets

· Fuel tank in aircraft and automobile

· Water pressure tank

· Oil tank

How are composite vessels manufactured?

How strong are they?

How strong are they?

With the proper design and manufacturing, most composite pressure vessels are designed to withstand 15 MPa up to 300 MPa pressures. It depends on many parameters ( etc. material selection, orientation, geometry) and application. The main reason of the popularity and usage of them is due to their high specific strength and lightweight. Therefore, these pressure vessels provide an excellent compromise between high mechanical properties and weight characteristics.
